Creepy crawly friend

We found a beautiful looking caterpillar on the deck while Nanna and II were visiting over Memorial Day weekend.  Luke quickly adopted it and after we examined it, found a jar, collected sticks and grass to make a "natural" habitat for Luke's new little friend, we did a little research.  Turns out this "cute" army worm and all of his friends are a tree's worst nightmare.  They work collectively to strip trees of all of their leaves.  We planned on getting rid of the worm, until it spun it's cocoon in the jar.  Now we have to wait this thing out and admire the dull gray moth that it will become.  Let's hope it doesn't find its way out of the jar before it can be released outside.  :)

He's awfully brave to let the "army worm" roam on his body. Thanks to his curiousity, we all learned about the damage they can cause.
