May weekend at the farm

We visited ND over Mother's Day weekend.  We spent a beautiful Saturday at the farm.  When we arrived, Riley quickly found some farming tools. Luke couldn't wait to visit his tree.

Riley and Luke found great satisfaction cleaning out the sticks, coal and dirt from the foundation of the old machine shed.  Things that were flammable were toted to the fire pit in the big blue bucket.  While Luke transported the bucket, Riley worked on shoveling dirt from the pile to her own bucket.  They were quite the task masters... until Nanna and II arrived to remind Mommy of the decades old manure that contributed to that fine, rich dirt.  We quickly diverted their attention to other areas of the farm that needed "work" (and took really long, warm, soapy showers before too much time had passed).

I can imagine these two farmers digging for potatoes when we next visit the farm.

One minute, Riley was gardening with Nanna.  The next, she was standing in the flower bed without pants, shoes or socks.  There's nothing like the feel of good North Dakota dirt between your toes.

Luke learned how to locate the wild asparagus in the tree grove. He's going to love picking peas when you come in June. There are plenty so he won't have to snitch them from his Mommy's stash.

Riley helped Nanna water and pick the flowers, which explains having to strip down after getting wet.
