Luke's first parade

We attended the Dan Patch Days Parade this afternoon! Dan Patch Days is the Savage community festival. We're lucky that Dan's sister lives on a corner of the parade route. Her yard is always the perfect place to take in the festival.

Parades have gone through some changes since I was a kid. There are still high school bands, politicians, clowns and horses. The most obvious change is all of the stuff that's thrown out to the crowd. We scored a deck of cards and 2 free admission tickets to Canterbury Downs (I can't wait to go!), freeze pops (from a bank and a girl scout troop), a frisbee (from Luke's daycare), and a bunch of candy. There were also temporary tattoos, fortune cookies, and fresh beef sticks from Von Hanson's Meat. You could even get sprayed with a water gun. Kids left the parade with stashes of candy that could rival Halloween, and they hardly had to move to get any of it!

Luke enjoyed the freeze pops in particular. It was the perfect treat for a teething boy on a hot day.
