With gas prices reaching $3.80 a gallon, it became apparent that our 13-mile-per-gallon Trooper was becoming a real liability to our bank account. After several weeks of car shopping, we finally decided to bite the bullet and invest in some new wheels. We started looking at used cars, but made the mistake (?) of sitting inside of a new one. Emotions took over and the smell of "newness" was just too enticing. I've never had a new car before and while Dan and I have always been weary of the new-car depreciation that happens the second you drive off the lot, the buyer incentives, 100,000 mile warranty and a really good interest rate won us over. Okay, the bluetooth might have had something to do with it too.
We got a 2011 Kia Sorento. The best part was picking up Luke after picking up the car. We walked out of his school and I just watched him as he looked around for our car. He had no idea that on this day, he'd be chauffeured in a new ride. Finally I pointed to the car. He looked a me, cocked his head, looked at the car, looked at me and finally said, "huh"? Once the shock wore off, he was REALLY excited. His immediate concern was whether or not he could roll down his window. Once it was established that it would roll down a loooong way, he was thrilled. Words like "niiiiice" and "AWESOME" echoed from the backseat. It was a blissful ride for all of us. If only we could buy a new car every day... :)
