Maybe it's our age. Maybe it's the desire to spend money on house improvements rather than overpriced drinks. Maybe it's the safety of our home rather than driving the roads at bar close. Maybe it's the difficulty of finding a flattering sequin party dress.
Regardless of our motivation, our NYE celebration habits have officially changed and we couldn't be happier! This year, we rang in the new year with a great group of friends! The night started for many at Pump It Up. From 4:30-7:00, the kids (and accompanying adults) jumped and slid down giant inflatables. The strategy at work was for the kids to completely wear out before being confined to the house. This plan worked beautifully... the kids were just tired enough and operated in a "controlled crazy" state. The adults were able to enjoy visiting, food and drink while the kids played downstairs. Once we celebrated the kid new year (at about 9:00), everyone under the age of 6 was put to bed and the grown ups got to play, too. There were a couple of controversial games of Bananagrams and a best-of-5 Catch Phrase tournament. The results won't be officially shared, but let's just say that Mom went to bed happy around 2:30 am.
We enjoyed breakfast with our guests before sending them out to start 2012. I'm willing to bet that an afternoon nap was a priority for everyone as they started the new year.
