Don't rain on my parade!

We are lucky to have 2 kids who get along very well.  Luke is a doting older brother and is more patient with Riley than he probably ought to be. Riley, in turn, idolizes Luke and all he does.  We fully realize that this may not be the case as they move into adolescence, but for now we are thankful for the general harmony in our home.  Luke and Riley were up early on Saturday morning, like usual.  By 8:40 am, we had all taken a shower, gotten dressed, eaten 9 bowls of cereal (5 for Riley, 4 for Luke) and cleaned out Luke's shirt drawer.  Next, we took a trip to the grocery store after which Luke questioned, "Mom, I don't mean to complain, but when do we get to do something that kids like to do?"  With the clouds moving in and the weather forecast promising rain, we decided to get a little outside time before being confined to the house.  I needed to put groceries away so Luke and Riley went out to the swing set to wait for me to finish.  They were playing so well together that I chose to watch them from the patio door instead of interrupt their play.  One of the early lessons we learned with Sammy at the dog park was to keep out of a good thing.  Sometimes meddling adults can shift the balance of power and ruin the play.

They shared the swing for about 25 minutes.  Never stopping, never screaming, never fighting.  Just swinging and talking and smiling.

A couple hours later, Vaughn and Brock came for an afternoon visit,  Beth had a baby shower nearby and the boys came for lunch and a little play time.  They had so much fun!  Riley went down for her nap and the boys went back outside.  From what I could hear, they played pirates.  Who knows what else.  :)  When the rain started to fall, they came inside and scooted downstairs to play.  Again, they played great together.  We all agreed that more frequent play dates were a MUST!
