Life at the zoo!

At the dolphin tank

Tracking the activity of sleeping tigers. Tough job!

Checking out the leopard

Cooling off in the water fountain play area

Checking out the tide pool. This should have been a movie because Luke screamed and ran every time the unpredictable tide came in. The teenagers watching him were quite entertained.

Hatching an egg in the playground.

We went to the zoo on Monday morning. Nanna and II gave us a family membership for Luke's and Riley's birthday. It's been a great gift because it allows us to go to the zoo for a couple hours at at time and avoid a kid meltdown in pursuit of "getting our money's worth". It works best for us to get ready early and be there soon after the zoo opens at 9 am. One of the benefits, is that the snow monkeys are out playing. Riley typically forgoes her morning nap on the days we go to the zoo... she's much too engaged in the people and animals to close her eyes! I have to admit, her brother is quite entertaining.

This was a particularly beautiful morning, so we decided to stick to the outside animals, with the exception of the dolphin and shark tanks. Luke met the shark up close and personal and got a great look at his rows of teeth. If not for the glass walls of the tank, Luke would have been breakfast! Luke enjoyed the other animals, too (bears, wild boar, leopards, tigers) but tended ignore the animals in the presence of the playground, water play area and any nearby tunnel.

I-I and Nanna look forward to you showing us your favorite animals at the zoo. It's nice that you live so close, so you can go often.
That's a huge egg your sitting on Luke.
