We had an exciting 4th of July! In the morning, Daddy went to help our friend Steve clean up after a devastating fire swept through his storage facilities. Certainly not the way Steve and his family wanted to be spending their 4th of July... and a good reminder that we should be thankful for our health and safety because, in the end, that's what's most important.
After Daddy was done, we met him at Aunt Beth and Uncle Tony's for the fireworks celebration. Vaughn Vaughn wasn't feeling too well. He was up most of the night before with a sore throat and didn't take much of a nap either. Still, he was able to muster the energy to play with Luke while we waited for everyone to arrive. Once the group had gathered, we headed out on the boat... the awesome boat! Aunt Beth brought a bunch of yummy snacks and Luke loaded up like he was packing it away for the winter. His favorites were Hawaiian bread with spinach/artichoke/parmsean dip and crackers with hummus, watermelon and cherries. I'm going to have to start preparing more gourmet meals in the future... PB & J probably won't cut it anymore!
The fireworks were amazing. Luke counted boats in the lake and spied helicoptors and airplanes while we waited for the show to begin. Not only could we see the Minnetonka show, but at one time there were 5 different shows in the sky. Luke LOVED the fireworks! He smiled, squealed, and jumped up and down as they would explode in the sky. His enthusiasm got the attention of the others on the boat and as soon as he realized that he had an audience, he really started to perform for them. When Luke shouted "Funny!" we knew it was a particularly amazing explosion.
It took a while for the thousands of boats to leave the lake, and in that time, Luke fell asleep in the cabin. Mommy laid down with him to make sure he didn't roll off (and to catch a few winks of sleep herself). A great way to end the night!
